Partner information →My name is Kirsten Wouterse. When I came to Bonaire, I thought many things would become clear by themselves. They didn’t. Not the big things, but the small ones: how things work, why things are done the way they are, and which unwritten rules shape daily life on the island.
My connection with the Caribbean started long before Bonaire. I have family on Sint Maarten and lived on Curaçao for a while. Still, every island has its own character. I had to get to know Bonaire all over again. That taught me how valuable context is.
With OYA Bonaire, I share what I learned along the way, and I introduce newcomers to the people and places that know the island far better than I do. That way they can find their own way, with respect for the island and its people.
